I've seen him credited with anywhere from 83 to 159 studio and live albums, most of them completely obscure. Think about that one for a moment. 159  albums, out of which most people have probably heard none. Even more adventurous listeners are probably familiar with only five or ten. I don't know how it's even possible to make that much music. He released eight albums in 1971 alone. Eight. Most bands are lucky to make eight albums over the course of their whole career. This guy was insane.The man's sort of famous for this. RYM lists him having 96 releases under his own name plus one in collaboration with Captain Beefheart. Sure, many of those releases are posthumous, but he recorded and played live 96 albums worth of material in 27 years. That averages out to 3.55555556 albums per year.
